We are a newly established organisation and our aim is to improve Aboriginal health in the Great Southern Region. We propose to work with State and Commonwealth Governments to advocate, negotiate and manage the transfer of primary healthcare and related services for the region to community control.

A 2024 report by Think Change Resolve Consultants with Great Southern Noongar people found: The Noongar people of the Wagyl Kaip Southern Noongar region express dissatisfaction with aspects of their health service experience, that reflect both a patchwork quality and, on occasion, a lack of cultural effectiveness. These are concerns commonly expressed by Aboriginal communities that do not have access to a comprehensive primary health care service run by their community

After almost 200 years it is time for Great Southern Noongar people to be in control of their own health care. While the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation boasts its role in supporting 146 ACCHOs across Australia with 550 sites, there is no ACCHO in the Great Southern Region of WA.

NACCHO is committed to supporting culturally informed, community led health care empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to live healthier lives. The Great Southern Aboriginal Health Service Aboriginal Corporation aims to partner with NACCHO and the Aboriginal Health Council of WA. We will bring the NACCHO led work to our region to improve the quality of life, health and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in the region.
